Yesterday, CJ, Rafael, Aaron & Louis enjoyed two separate Earth Hours. They enjoyed the official Earth Hour from 8.30-9.30pm, but they also spent 3-4pm engaging in Earth Hour activities.
They were joined for the first game by Mavi & Jego.
We all enjoyed the Electricity mini-lecture, the Earth Hour video, an Earth Hour activity hunt which culminated with candle holder making with recycled materials. The kids also gave a short message on video for Earth Hour, which we'll be uploading later.
Thanks again to Kids Ahoy, Aaron and Mummy Maj, Rafael, Louis, CJ & Mummy Joanne for a wonderful NatureKeepers special. Thanks also to Teachers LJ and Denvie.
We're happy to announce that CJ has declared the 28th of each month as Earth Hour night, and Aaron's family will turn the lights of every Saturday. That's NatureKeeping at its very best :)
Til next week - April 4 - Happy NatureKeeping!!

he said this as we counted down, last two minutes til end of Earth hour last night while wiping away tears. I can't tell you how touched I was and how grateful I am to you guys for making such eureka moment happen :=) SALAMAT!!! WE'RE DOING THIS EVERY 28TH, 8:30-9:30PM. Wish us luck!

Yey! That's so great :) Tell CJ we're so happy with his Eureka moment. He is so talented now with all his newly acquired skills that I'm sure you'll be able to fill up that monthly hour no worries at all. I can just see a candle-lit serenade with his songs learnt from Teacher Thea. Or maybe some poetry recitals etc. haha

yup :=) we did a candlelit video diary and played with shadows. He was sweating a lot but no complaints at all. He said, "sweating is not a sacrifice. we are doing good for earth". I just made him take off his shirt hehehe
Getting ready to post an entry about last nights unforgettable moment :-)

Yes, it was a reflection of the kids watching last year's Earth Hour video, it's lovely isn't it? I haven't had that little flutter of excitement about seeing a good photo opportunity for the longest time :-)

=============== Record power savings for RP in Earth Hour 2009 By Katherine Adraneda Updated March 31, 2009 05:04 PM
MANILA, Philippines – The Philippines topped last Saturday’s hour-long lights-off drive in terms of power savings.
According to information posted in the website wwf.org.ph, the Philippines saved 611 MWh of power during the Earth Hour 20009, outshining the rest of the world.
The website also disclosed that with over 15 million Filipinos in 650 major cities participating in the event last Mar. 26, the Philippines edged out all other countries, including Australia where the first Earth Hour was conducted in 2007.
Greece placed second with 484 cities and towns participating, followed by Australia with 309.
The website indicated that the power conserved by the Philippines during voluntary event was estimated to be equal to that saved by shutting down a dozen coal-fired power plants for an hour.
Earth Hour 2009's power savings was deemed “at least 10 times more massive and effective” compared to last year.
Way to go Manila! I second Mummy Joanne's sentiments - no small effort is too small if we all do it together. Let's put earth-saving measures into everyday living - and we can make a big difference. Can u imagine what would happen if every single person refused plastic bags alone?
